Soon you will not travel the roadways of AmeriKa freely. Soon everyone will show their papers … uh .. er sorry, we already have to show our papers. Some or you youngins dont realize it, but there was a time in the past when you could walk or drive around freely at any time of the day .. or night without being stopped and questioned. Not so any more.
The latest assault on freedom comes under the guise of stopping folks who drive impaired. Look, I’m all for stopping impaired driving. I used to be one of those impaired drivers and thank my lucky stars I never injured anyone but myself. I’ve also been arrested at one of these DUI checkpoints back in 1989 while living for only 1 month in North Carolina. The locals knew of these but failed to mention it to me hahaha. Anyway .. this isn’t about that, it’s about herding people like cattle to slaughter through these checkpoints, including sober law abiding people.
Why should I the law abiding citizen be subjected to what you might as well refer to as a search of ones person ?
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Would not the checkpoint be considered unreasonable to a law abiding citizen traveling the roads of Amerika ?
Some will say, What’s the big deal if you’ve done nothing wrong ? While I agree halfheartedly with that, as I like going through checkpoints nowadays to mess with their heads, it is a violation of my constitutional rights. I assure you, when you go through one of these checkpoints, they’re looking for anything to make money with. Don’t have your seat belt on .. ticket for you. Have a cracked windshield .. ticket for you. Have a light out .. ticket for you. Did you know you can also get ticketed for bald tires, no bumper on rear of truck, loud exhaust and many other things ? Many of these offenses are on the books but rarely enforced. But times are changing and funds are needed to supply the police state with all those fancy citizen control gadgets.
The nice folks down in San Antonio Texas want to set up DWI checkpoints. Not just any old checkpoint, but Permanent checkpoints. Tell me off the top of your head, how many people will they catch driving impaired at one of these Permanent Checkpoints say around 11 AM ? Not very many I guarantee you. Unless of course they’ll also be checking to see if you’re driving while on some prescription drugs that impair you ability to drive ??? What else is special about these checkpoints other than being ‘Permanent’ is the location they want to establish them. ‘In or around drinking and driving hotspots’. Those would likely be places where you like to have dinner and a few drinks, or say your favorite watering hole. Maybe even that hot spot for active night life. Seems they really want people to stay home if they go through with this. If they do go through with it, expect to see these across the nation. Don’t think for a minute they’ll be telling you about them on the local snooze though.
A deputy police chief in South Texas has asked legislators to consider setting up permanent DWI checkpoints to save lives.
The San Antonio Express-News reports Trevino urged legislators to allow law officers to stop drivers and do routine sobriety tests near so-called drinking-and-driving “hot spots.” He says local data could be used to identify areas where such behavior is prevalent.
Jim Harrington with the Texas Civil Rights Project argued against the proposal, saying sobriety checkpoints allow for police manipulation and abuse of power.
I know times have changed since I was a teen in the 70’s. But damn, you can’t go anywhere anymore without LEO’s looking at you with that &What the fk you up to look&. It wasn’t always like this in case you younger readers were wondering. You have no idea what you missed out on. I recall the downturn in the late 80’s early 90’s. Back in my day the only thing close to a checkpoint was the cattle corals at Six Flags. Of course those were to prepare you for the TSA security checkpoints at airports ;).
